Workforce Training Supports for Employers

On July 27, 2026, the Government of Ontario, with support from the Government, announced new workforce training investments to help workers affected by tariffs and economic disruption move into in-demand roles. For employers, this initiative may help address skills gaps, support employee retention and upskilling, and improve access to trained talent in sectors such as manufacturing, forestry, construction, skilled trades and transportation. Key highlights for employers include:

  • More than $7.2 million will support training for over 500 workers in northern Ontario.
  • Skills Advance Ontario connects employers, workers and training providers to support sector-specific skills development.
  • Employers facing workforce pressures may be able to use these supports to retrain employees, fill hard-to-staff roles and build long-term workforce resilience.
