Use of French in Federally Regulated Private Businesses Regulations

On July 18, 2026, the federal government announced draft regulations under the Use of French in Federally Regulated Private Businesses Act (UFPBA), with comments due by February 27, 2027.  

 

The National Payroll Institute previously reported on the proposed regulations in its May 6 Late Breaking Payroll News

 

The UFPBA will apply to federally regulated private sector businesses with: 

 

  • 25 or more employees in Quebec, or 
  • 100 or more employees in Canadian regions with a strong francophone presence, as of January 1 of the previous year.
