On July 13, 2026, WorkSafeBC announced that the preliminary average base premium rate for 2027 will remain at $1.55 per $100 of assessable payroll. This means:
- WorkSafeBC’s strong financial position is expected to allow approximately $960 million in surplus funds to be returned to employers through discounted premium rates and assessment credits;
- Although the average base rate will remain flat, individual industry base rates may increase, decrease or remain unchanged depending on classification and rate group experience; and
- WorkSafeBC’s final 2027 premium rates are expected to be announced in October 2026.
Employers should:
- Review their preliminary 2027 classification and premium rate information;
- Assess any potential payroll budget impacts; and
- Confirm that their WorkSafeBC classification, assessable payroll reporting and internal cost projections remain accurate.
