On June 23, 2026, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) announced upcoming changes to access for Business Registration Online (BRO).
Effective July 14, 2026, BRO will be accessible only through the CRA account. Businesses must use BRO through the CRA account to register for a Business Number (BN) and the CRA program accounts.
BRO allows businesses to obtain a BN and program account details instantly, with online access available anytime.
The move to online registration, initially introduced on November 3, 2025, followed feedback from the National Payroll Institute calling for a more streamlined and efficient process. This change aligns with the Institute’s continued advocacy to reduce administrative burden for employers.
