On May 6, 2026, the National Payroll Institute advised its members via the Late Breaking Payroll News of the introduction of Bill 106, prohibiting employers from requiring medical certificates from their employees. The Bill has now been voted down and will not proceed further.
As a result, there are no changes to the current requirements, and employers may continue to request medical certificates in accordance with existing legislation.
The National Payroll Institute will continue to monitor any future legislative developments related to employment standards in Prince Edward Island and will keep members informed of any changes that may impact payroll and compliance practices.
