2026-2027 Budget – Newfoundland and Labrador

On April 29, 2026, the government of Newfoundland and Labrador tabled the province’s 2026-2027 Budget, proposing the following measures that impact payroll.

Increase to Basic Personal Amount

The budget proposes to increase the Basic Personal Amount (BPA) from $11,188 to $15,000. This measure will reduce provincial income tax payable for employees and may result in lower payroll tax withholdings once updated tax tables are implemented.

Volunteer Firefighter and Search and Rescue Tax Credit Enhancement

The budget proposes to double the Volunteer Firefighter and Search and Rescue Tax Credit from $3,000 to $6,000. This is a non-refundable personal tax credit available to eligible volunteers who meet the service requirements.
