On March 31, 2026, the federal government announced an extension of work permits for eligible Ukrainians and their family members who arrived in Canada on or before March 31, 2024. Eligible individuals have until March 31, 2027, to apply for an extension of their work permit, which may be granted for up to three additional years.
Employers should do the following.
- Review their workforce to identify impacted employees, proactively communicate extension timelines, and support eligible workers with timely access to documentation and application resources.
- HR and payroll teams should also ensure employment records remain up to date and that ongoing work authorization complies with federal immigration requirements.
