Wage Subsidy Programs for Employers Hiring Summer Students - PEI

On March 5, 2026, the Prince Edward Island government introduced a wage subsidy program for local businesses that hire summer students. This provincial wage subsidy program works as follows. 

 

  • Jobs for Youth Program 

Supports employers hiring students aged 15–29 for 8–12 weeks during the summer, with participants returning to school in the fall. 

  • Post Secondary Student Program 

Provides wage subsidies for employers hiring full-time post-secondary students for 12–18 weeks over the summer.  

 

Employers should: 

 

  • Review the eligibility criteria; 
  • Apply early to secure funding before the program deadlines (April 3, 2026); and
