On March 5, 2026, the Prince Edward Island government introduced a wage subsidy program for local businesses that hire summer students. This provincial wage subsidy program works as follows.
- Jobs for Youth Program
Supports employers hiring students aged 15–29 for 8–12 weeks during the summer, with participants returning to school in the fall.
- Post Secondary Student Program
Provides wage subsidies for employers hiring full-time post-secondary students for 12–18 weeks over the summer.
Employers should:
- Review the eligibility criteria;
- Apply early to secure funding before the program deadlines (April 3, 2026); and
- Submit the application online through SkillsPEI or the Employment Development Agency.
