Inspection Blitz – Driver Misclassification in Trucking

The Labour Program’s Misclassification Team will conduct a targeted inspection blitz in the Hamilton and Greater Toronto Area in the coming weeks to address ongoing concerns about worker misclassification. Labour standards and occupational health and safety inspectors will jointly verify employer compliance with the Canada Labour Code. Where misclassification is suspected, the Labour Program will investigate and issue penalties promptly. Relevant information gathered during the blitz may also be shared with the Canada Revenue Agency to support coordinated enforcement.

A new data-sharing agreement between the Labour Program and the Temporary Foreign Worker Program will further enhance the identification of high-risk employers and improve enforcement efforts in the road transportation sector.

The results of this blitz will guide future enforcement across Canada, and a summary of general findings will be shared with stakeholders once available.
