Starting November 3, 2025, new Business Number (BN) and Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) program account registrations are to be completed online through the CRA’s secure Business Registration Online (BRO) portal. Calls to the Business Enquiries (BE) line will be redirected to BRO. While most registrations can be completed online, some situations, such as reopening closed accounts, registering non-resident-owned businesses, or businesses owned by other entities, will still require contacting the CRA’s BE line or submitting paper forms.
The CRA’s move to online registration aims to make the process faster, easier, and more secure. Using BRO, businesses can instantly obtain a BN and program account details, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This move to online registration follows feedback from the National Payroll Institute for a more streamlined and efficient process, in keeping with the Institute’s continued advocacy for reduced administrative burden on employers.
