Amendments to the Employment Act

As previously communicated on May 16, 2025, via the Late Breaking Payroll News, the government of Saskatchewan enacted significant changes to employment standards on May 13, 2025, following the introduction of Bill 5.

These changes include updates to work schedules, tips, group terminations, sick notes, reinstatement authority, and various leave entitlements.

On September 3, 2025, the government of Saskatchewan confirmed that these amendments will come into force on January 1, 2026.

To ensure compliance with the upcoming employment standards changes, employers should take proactive steps to:

  • Update their policies, procedures, and systems;
  • Communicate the changes to management and employees; and
  • Provide training and education to managers and employees.
