SIN Simplification for Newcomers

On March 7, 2025, Service Canada and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced that they will introduce SIN@Entry, an integrated and automated service bundle that combines immigration and Social Insurance Number (SIN) services. This initiative aims to simplify the process for newcomers by allowing them to obtain their SIN automatically upon entry into Canada.

An official launch date has not yet been confirmed.

Other announcements include the following:

  • In May 2025, SIN confirmation letters will be available as PDFs through My Service Canada Account (MSCA), providing secure digital access and reducing reliance on mailed copies.

  • In September 2025, Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) and Service Canada plan to launch an enhanced eSIN system that will reduce the processing time from five business days to just minutes.

Employers must verify that new employees have a valid SIN and comply with record-keeping and reporting requirements.
