On February 27, 2025, the government of Yukon announced that it would extend the Paid Sick Leave Rebate Program, which was introduced on April 25, 2023, pending legislative approval of Budget 2025–26.
The program provides workers with up to 40 hours of paid sick leave per 12-month period at no cost to their employer and will cover sick leave taken from April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026.
Yukon-based employers can apply for paid sick leave for their Yukon employees who meet the eligibility criteria.
The following are the requirements for the program:

The employee notifies their employer of the need for sick leave.

They use all available paid sick leave from the employer.

If additional leave is needed, the employer approves and pays for it.

The employer applies for the Paid Sick Leave Rebate within 30 days of submitting the required documents.

The program reimburses the employer for the extra sick leave paid.
