Effective April 1, 2025, Nova Scotia is increasing paid domestic violence leave from three to five days.
- Employees with at least three months of service remain eligible for up to 16 continuous weeks of leave.
- Employees can continue to take up to 10 days of leave, either intermittently or continuously.
- The paid portion of this leave increases from three to five days.
Employers must:
- Communicate this change to their managers and employees
- Update their workplace policies and collective agreements to ensure they reflect the new leave entitlement.
- Equip supervisors and HR personnel with resources to handle leave requests with sensitivity and confidentiality.
- Promote awareness of domestic violence resources and create a safe environment for affected employees.
