Capital Gains – Harmonization with the Federal Government

On February 3, 2025, the Ministère des Finances du Québec announced that the Quebec tax legislation and regulations will be harmonized with the Federal government’s decision to defer the capital gains inclusion rate to January 1, 2026, and the implementation date for the increase in the lifetime capital gains exemption and the introduction of the Canadian Entrepreneurs’ Incentive will be maintained until then.

As a result of the National Payroll Institute’s continuous advocacy efforts, Revenu Québec confirmed that no amended RL-1s will be required for the 2024 tax year reporting of employee security options and that the Agency will calculate any necessary adjustments from their end.
