On December 4, 2024, the Alberta Government introduced the Private Bill 210 Employment Standards (protecting worker’s tips) Amendment Act, 2024, which received its first reading.
The proposed amendments include:

Ownership of tips and gratuities by the employee

Employer restrictions from:

Treating tips or gratuities as part of an employee’s wages

Withholding or deducting any portion of tips or gratuities

Requiring employees to provide any part of their tips or gratuities to the employer
